Overcome Your Weight Loss Plateau

Let me ask you this: Where are you now in your weight loss journey?

After seeing your weight come off and your clothes fit better than ever, do you feel that your weight loss has stopped and that there is no progress anymore?

You continue dieting and working out but somehow when you measure yourself, you see the same results.

You haven’t lost an inch.

Do you feel like you’re stuck and the next step is to just give up?

Then you may be experiencing a Weight Loss Plateau.

 

 How To Breakthrough A Weight Loss Plateau

A weight loss plateau is when your body stops losing weight, your fat cells stop shrinking, your cravings come back and your emotions that you were suppressing are now coming back to the surface.

Scary, right?

Being on a plateau could be even more frustrating than if you were never able to lose the weight in the first place.

It’s because you’ve had a taste of what it’s like to accomplish something that you thought was impossible.

Unfortunately, so many women give up at this point.

I want to tell you now that this is all part of a healthy weight loss journey.

It is an opportunity to learn what’s really going on inside your mind and your body.

If you can ride this out, you can actually go to a greater point.

This weight loss plateau is an opportunity to ask yourself these questions.

‘Why do I have these cravings?’ 

‘Am I filling a void in my life?’

‘Why am I running to food to fill what’s inside my heart?’

‘Why do I care about losing weight in the first place?’

When you ask questions like these, this is when the real work comes in.

Your body is inviting you to go deeper within yourself.

 

Starvation diets can make you lose weight temporarily and it can give you such a high.

It’s like a drug, and you want more of it.

But you will hit a plateau.

At this point, maybe you’ve become so obsessed about how to get that high back.

So you go on your starvation diets again.

When you don’t get the same results, maybe you start to take pills.

Then you hit the plateau again so you start to take more pills or even turn to surgeries.

Well, guess what, you will still hit the plateau. I know because I have been through ALL of this.

Unless you are prepared to accept that you will go through plateaus in your weight loss journey, you will still be a yo-yo dieter.

Until you do the internal work of really finding out the answers to these questions, you will still end up giving up when you hit this stage of the journey.

Dealing with these issues and discovering the answers to these questions will help you ride through the plateaus quicker.

Remember, that the universe or your beliefs would not give this to you now unless you were ready.

So welcome it because the more you run, the harder it’s going to be.

Riding out the weight loss plateau is one of the most powerful steps that you can take in your weight loss journey.

This is the time that you get to know yourself even more so you can continue losing weight.

You will also be able to keep it off because you have already dealt with the issues inside of you.

So hang in there.

Change things up if you want.

Find what motivates you.

Remember to never give up because this too shall pass.

Wherever you are right now in your weight loss journey is exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Take the weight loss plateau as what they are meant to be…an opportunity for you to go from this point to something even greater.

Make time to ask yourself these questions and really go deep to discover the answers.

There’s no need to rush.

This is YOUR journey.

Fat Melting Recipe “Deviled Eggs”

Eggs are some of the most versatile power foods out there.

They are packed with protein, healthy fats and lots of other vitamins and minerals.

They are easy to cook and you can bring them anywhere.

Give a delicious spin to these fat-melting eggs with this great recipe.

Ingredients:

6 hard boiled eggs
1/4 cup mayonnaise or mayonnaise alternative (for the recipe, click here)
1 tsp. white vinegar
1 tsp. yellow mustard
1/8 tsp sea salt
freshly ground pepper
Paprika for garnish

 

Directions:

1.  Peel hard boiled eggs.

2.  In medium bowl, mix together all ingredients.

3.  Fill hard-boiled eggs with mixture and top with Paprika.

Responsible Way To Take Pills

Here’s a quick history lesson for you…

In the 1960’s, the pharmaceutical companies started to explode.

Different types of medications were introduced in the market.

It was also around this time when taking pills for just about anything began to really take off.

There were pills to feel better, sleep better, lose weight and many more problems that humans face.

Name it, and there’s most likely a tablet or a capsule for it.

The idea of popping pills to “make your problems go away” is so seductive and attractive.

But we have to be aware of the deeper psychology that is going on here.

 

Dangers Of Weight Loss Pills

“Pill Psychology”  is the idea of putting all your hope into a pill and the belief that the pill is going to save you.

I still see smart, educated, successful and brilliant women get sucked into this mentality.

Some just see an ad on the internet or hear about a friend who is taking some supplement and they do the same.

Many women pop these pills to lose weight but then they go out and eat hamburgers, fries and sugary foods and they think that these pills can do the work for them.

These pills are marketed as vitamins, supplements  and energy boosters.

However,  they are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration or the FDA.

Nobody watches out for the integrity of what’s really in these medications.

Thus, the manufacturers can put anything on them without any obligation to disclose ALL the ingredients.

By the way, some of them are definitely toxic.

Now, I’m not saying that all pills are dangerous.

There are still some that are truly medicinal and can help to eliminate systems and even cure illnesses and disorders.

The real issue here is that if you are taking these pills without knowing the baseline of your hormones, enzymes, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, etc. then you will never know how these pills are truly effecting you. 

This is what I believe is missing  in our culture –  personal responsibility.

When you start to take responsibility for your health, you will no longer be tricked or scammed.

You will be able to avoid putting toxins in your body.

You will stop searching for something outside of yourself to fix your problems, and you will begin searching for the source of your issues that can only be found within yourself.

Responsible Weight Loss

What To Do:

  • Before you take any pills, go to a doctor to get a prescription for your blood work.
  • Work with a trained physician who will monitor your blood work to determine whether you are low on specific vitamins or if you have any condition that needs to be addressed.
  • The physician then prescribes you with the right medication and dosage for your condition.  Preferably choose an Integrative Medicine Doctor because they are aware of the highest quality medicines or supplements.  These pills are certified organic, third party tested and the prescribing doctors have done ample research on them.
  • Take them for 90 days and then do a blood work test to see how the supplements are affecting you.
  • Have regular visits to your doctor so your blood work and your health can be monitored.

 

This is the ONLY responsible and conscious way of taking pills.

Pills should be uniquely prescribed. 

Not every human needs the same thing.  No two humans are the same.

When you take them blindly, it will possibly do more damage than good.

When you take a pill without awareness, it can take away the most important part of the journey which is the confidence of knowing that you’ve got the strength inside of you to overcome anything. 

Your body is YOUR responsibility.

Use the tools of self awareness in medical science to help you thrive and have your most optimized health.

Bye-Bye Stress, Bye-Bye Belly Fat

I hear so many women tell me that they are doing everything I advise them.

They eat nutritious foods, exercise and cut out sugar and chemicals.

And still, they do not lose weight.

Their bodies are the same or worse. They may even have more fat especially around their bellies.

This is the point when I ask them, “Where are your stress levels?”

They start to tell me that they are overworked, always rushing and pressured to please everyone around them.

This is when I explain the damaging effects of being in a constant state of stress.

 

What Causes Belly Fat?

Stress can manifest in your body in many different forms.

Unfortunately, one of them is BELLY FAT.

When you live your life in a state of agitation, frustration and hyper responsiveness, this causes belly fat.

It is a sign that stress is taking over your body — specifically the nervous and endocrine system.

When stress affects your nervous system, you are unable to react clearly.

You become anxious, emotional and irritable.

This can bring you into a state of confusion where you cannot make the best choices for your body.

The endocrine system deals with the different hormones of  the body.

Your body’s specific way to respond to stress is to release the stress hormone called Cortisol.

Your Adrenal glands are small glands located on top of the kidneys that are responsible for releasing this hormone.

In our modern world, this hormone is being pumped at a much higher rate, and the adrenal glands were never designed to do this.

Most women are pulled in different directions throughout the day, and you may feel that you need to fulfill many roles.

There are always people who need you and want to have your attention.

There is a sense of pressure to do what is expected of you.

What this does to your brain is to tell you that you’re in danger so you go into “fight or flight” mode.

This stressed-out state sends the signal to pump up the Cortisol.

All the blood floods into your brain because you need to think quickly and respond faster.

There is not enough blood going to your digestive organs, and you are not able to fully digest your food.

This can lead to digestive issues such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, bloating and yes, belly fat storage.

This is how excess Cortisol causes fat storage in the abdominal area.

 

How To Lose Belly Fat

Reducing the amount of cortisol in your body is one of the best opportunities you have to stop storing belly fat.

Now let’s be realistic… you can’t eliminate cortisol completely!

When released at the right time and at the right amount, cortisol is very beneficial.

It’s going to allow you to really focus and concentrate when you need it.

Pumping Cortisol all day long is the problem because it causes Adrenal fatigue.

You can avoid going to that extreme state by managing your stress levels in healthy ways.

 

Natural Ways To Relieve Stress

  • Meditate.
  • Get a relaxing massage.
  • Go for a walk.
  • Laugh with a friend or see a funny movie.
  • Have a bubble bath.
  • Play with your kids.

Whatever you do, do it from a place of peace. Be gentle with yourself.

Remember, there is no such thing as “perfect”. We all have our experiences in life that give us stress. It’s about how we manage that stress daily that will determine how your body processes it.

We can study the science of fitness, exercise and nutrition but without addressing the stress epidemic, losing weight and eliminating belly fat is not going to happen.

When a woman is stressed out, it affects her entire body, choices and relationships.

Choose to manage your stress in a healthy way.

You will have a sense of peace and calm and this is the best gift you can give yourself.

Fat Melting Recipe “Carne Asada Wrap”

Experience the different flavors and textures in your mouth as you bite onto these tasty Carne Asada Wraps.

It’s deliciously packed with nutrients that eliminate cravings and help you lose fat.

It’s perfect any time of the day.

 

INGREDIENTS:

For the Marinade:

¼ c. fresh Lime juice
¼ c. fresh Lemon juice
¼ c. Orange juice (freshly squeezed)
4 cloves Garlic (crushed or minced)
1 tbsp. Lemon pepper
1/4 tsp. ground Cumin
2 lb. skirt steak (use grass-fed if available)
1 tbsp. Coconut oil
½ c. red Bell pepper (chopped)
½ c. red Onion (chopped)

For the Wrap:

Spinach wraps/tortillas or large romaine lettuce leaf

DIRECTIONS:

Mix all marinade ingredients in a bowl.

Place the skirt steak in large, plastic freezer bag and pour marinade over it.

Seal and refrigerate for up to 6 hours ahead of cooking time.

In a frying pan, add the coconut oil and heat to medium.

Just before the pan begins to smoke, add skirt steak and sear for 4-5 minutes on each side.

When desired doneness is reached, remove steak and place it on a cutting board.

Allow it to rest for 5 minutes.

Cut steak against grain into bite-size cubes or strips (as for fajitas).

Assemble wrap with Carne Asada (steak), red bell pepper and red onion, using the tortilla, lettuce leaf, or spinach wrap.

Down 7 Inches In 4 Weeks!

Over the past 4 weeks, I have been getting ready for an exciting opportunity.

I will soon be shooting an infomercial about health and fitness and I’m so excited!

To be in my best shape, I challenged myself for 28 days.

I wanted to see how my entire body would transform.

And the results are incredible!

I lost 7 inches of body fat but gained 4 points up the scale.

Shocking! It doesn’t make sense!

But when you look into the science of the body, it actually makes complete sense.

What happened is that my body built lean muscles.

Muscles are more dense that body fat and they don’t take as much space.

So, I may be heavier in the scale now but my body is much more toned and it’s tighter than ever before.

 

 

Here’s how I did it.

START WITH AN INTENTION OR A GOAL.
Make the decision that you want to lose the body fat.  Realize that you are doing this for yourself.

 

BEGIN YOUR MORNING WITH A CALM, CLEAR MIND.
You want your mind to set you up to succeed.
Starting with a clear head stops the chaos and stress in your mind.
You become more focused all through out the day.

 

MAKE YOUR NUTRITION DIALED IN.
Eat healthy mini-Meals every 2-3 hours, about 5-6 meals a day.
These meals are a combination of lean protein, lots of vegetables and healthy fats.

Eat slow burning carbohydrates on the 5th or 6th meal or when the sun goes down.  Examples are brown rice, yams or quinoa.
Carbohydrates make you sleepy and having them at this time prepares your body for a good night’s rest.

 

HAVE A CHEAT MEAL ONCE A WEEK.
Once a week, eat whatever you want.

This would avoid the feeling of being deprived.  It would also jumpstart your metabolism once you go back to your healthy eating habits.

 

HYDRATE YOUR BODY ALL THROUGH OUT THE DAY.
Drinking lots of water helps you get get rid of all the toxins.  It’s great for digestion and keeps your metabolism optimized.

 

PRACTICE YOGA.
Personally, I practice Yoga twice a week.  It keeps my body flexible and it helps get rid of common aches and pains.

Yoga is also fantastic as it taps into the internal organs.

 

HAVE FUN.
This is the most important thing that I did.

Enjoy the journey and love the adventure.  Look for movements and activities that you find exciting.

When you are having fun, you keep coming back for more.

Sugar Scripts for Any Occasion

Sugar has been a part of my life since I was an infant.  And believe me… I was not born with this superwoman “sugar-is-not-appealing” strength.

I had to go through so many times of breaking my addiction, then getting addicted again, then breaking the addiction, and getting addicted again before I finally figured some things out.

Now that I know how devastating sugar is to your weight loss goals and how it wreaks havoc in the body, I want to share some tips on how to handle yourself in social events where you are constantly offered sugar left and right.

Feartured - Sugar Scripts for Any OccasionAll of us have been in this situation…

You’re in a party and suddenly someone comes to you and gives you a piece of cake.

I believe that we deserve to have other options than just saying”Yes” out of guilt and eating that piece of cake.

If this is not the day that you planned to have your cheat meal, then there are several things you can do and say.

If you’re offered a piece of cake, you can say…

“No, thank you. I’m good, thanks very much.  Have you seen the rainbow today?  Wasn’t it lovely?”

This is called Deflection.

You say “No”, thank the person, and then follow it with a small talk about a general but interesting topic.

This will take the person’s mind away from the sugar and from recognizing that you don’t want sugar (which makes them question your sanity or wonder what’s wrong with THEM to not have the willpower to say no to sugar… none of which has anything to do with you).

If Deflection does not work, use an Excuse.

You can say, “No thank you. I notice that when I eat sugar, my skin breaks out.  Must be an allergy.”

Usually they stop at the word allergy.

In here, you give an actual reason and the person won’t take offense as you are taking full responsibility for your experience.

The Life-Changing-Event Excuse

The last step is to use when you’re confronted by a super aggressive sugar-pusher (aka your Grandmother) who may use guilt or even force to shove the sugar in your face.

This is when you need to pull out your big guns and go strong by saying that you are preparing for a contest or that you’re getting ready for a vacation at the beach.  Tell them that you’re feeling great about the progress that you have been making.

You can then follow it up with another conversation about something that interests the person. What is their absolute favorite thing to talk about? Use that in this context now. You will need all the secret weapons you can handle in order to block this level of attack.

In our society today where social events center around food and sugar for that matter, we will be faced with these challenges.

It’s best to tackle them head on with preparation and consciousness.

These scripts have been working for me for years.

So next time, when you’re in a party, you can try to use these lines and see how they work for you.

Taking Care of Yourself is Not Selfish

As women, our society sees us as the nurturers.

We are the ones who take care of others even at the expense of ourselves.

We feel that we are selfish when we take care of our needs first before attending to the needs of others.

We go out of our way to do these things for other people and feel guilty when we do things for ourselves.

Now, I want you to pause, think deeply and ask yourself…

Is giving to others at the expense of yourself a positive experience for you?

Do you get to the point that you run out of energy because you have not taken the time to replenish yourself first?

I’m not suggesting that you stop giving to others.

Let’s just reframe your viewpoint of giving.

Be Your Number One Priority

Say this to yourself:

“It is not selfish to take care of myself.”

Say it again and this time, mean it:

“It is not selfish to take care of myself.”

When you take care of your needs first, you will give from a place of abundance.

You are fulfilled from within, and you will be able to give your best energy.

You will become a better lover, mother, friend, a better person.

Start by giving yourself one hour a day for your needs for you to take care of yourself.

You deserve to feel complete and cared for before you share yourself to the world.

And YOU are the best person to do that to yourself.

Learn the joy you get when you love yourself the most.

You’ll find that your ability to love and care for others increases infinitely.

Find The Motivation From Within

Are there days when you’re feeling heavy, wanting to lay your head down and just curl up in bed?

You know that you have to get up but your body has no desire to do it.

You dread the torture from exercise and  you force yourself to eat healthy.

You’re fighting a war with your mind and body and you just can’t win.

Has your motivation been zapped away?

I hear you.

I am a fitness coach and a fitness expert and still, there are days when I feel exactly like this…

…days when I do not want to exercise or eat healthy.

Instead of beating yourself up and feeling guilty about a “wasted” day, be gentle with yourself.

Know that is part of the process.

Motivation is a journey, not a destination.

The motivation to a healthier life is inside you.

You will never lose that as long as you know why you started this journey.

The flame may not be strong now but when you tap into it, you’ll see it alive and burning.

The important thing is you accept it, move on and decide that tomorrow is another day…

…that you will get back on track and continue on with your journey to healthy and natural weight loss.
