Less Cardio for Weight Loss

Did you know that I do less cardio than before… and l am still fitter and leaner than ever?

This may sound unbelievable, I know.

We have been led to believe that it’s healthy to do hours on the treadmill.

That we should run for miles to get a toned physique…

That we should spend most of our exercise time doing cardio.

But this just isn’t true!

Most women spend way too long doing cardio, and they are burning off their muscles instead of burning fat.

Another problem with cardio is that women tend to be compulsive with cardio.

We become addicted to it.

The truth is, it’s not healthy for your body’s metabolism.

When you’re doing high-intensity cardio over long periods of time, you burn off glucose, which is sugar.

However, when you’re burning off sugar, you actually start craving even more sugar.

You’re training your body to use sugar as fuel and this can lead to more and more intense sugar cravings.

Cardio can also burn muscles when you do it for too long.

It doesn’t burn off fat.

What our bodies need are intense bouts of cardio followed by slow walking or resting.

These are called Intervals.

Here are some examples of Intervals:

  • Do a 1-minute sprint followed by a 2-minute walk.
  • You can also do a 2-minute run followed by a 4-minute walk.

It’s always a 1:2 ratio, meaning every spike you do, you do twice as long in the lower intensity.

When you do intervals, you spike your heart rate during the bursts of cardio and lower it when you do the lower intensity.

This tells your body to hold on to the muscle and get rid of the fat.

You can spend less time on cardio.

You actually become leaner because you get to keep the muscles and not burn them off.

What you’re doing is training your body to burn fat, which means you’re going to be craving fat.

That’s when you know that you’re on the right path.

Your body should be craving fat and not sugar.

This means that you’ve trained your metabolism to go from being a “sugar burner” to a “fat burner”.

Conquer Your Chocolate Cravings

Chocolate cravings can surely destroy your willpower to lose weight.

One minute you’re working out, eating healthy and doing everything right.

Then the next minute, you’re overpowered by this intense appetite to have these sweet “treats”.

You eat one… and you just can’t stop.

It is so easy to get hooked on chocolates like so many other women.

It doesn’t help that you see chocolates everywhere. They are at the supermarket counters, at the convenience stores, and even at the gas stations.

It used to be so hard to find chocolates, but today they put it on almost everything!

From candy bars, to chocolate drinks and even on savory dishes, most women encounter opportunities to eat chocolate over 100 times per day!

Your cravings can be satisfied anytime and anywhere.

This overwhelming focus on chocolate makes you have chocolate cravings all the time.

 

Why Are Chocolates So Addictive?

Have you ever wondered why you crave chocolate so much?

The components of chocolates have something to do with it.

Chocolate’s original and natural form is actually a health food.

Chocolates come from Cacao beans that are usually found in Central America.

These beans belong in the coffee family.

So it’s already a stimulant.

When you eat it, you get the immediate rush of energy.

It releases Dopamine that makes you sharp, fast and you feel amazing just like what coffee does to your brain.

At its natural state, the Cacao beans is a nutritious food because it is loaded with antioxidants and vitamins.

However, the food industry started adding in other ingredients to make it an even more powerful stimulant.

They added sugar that also provides your brain with a rush of energy.

Cacao plus Sugar equals a DOUBLE HIT of ENERGY.

But as you know from every sugar rush you’ve ever had… the euphoria does not last.

Soon enough, your body will crash, you will feel lethargic and your mood will be affected.

This is because sugar is toxic and is so destructive to the brain and body.

It can only give you fake energy.

The food industry did not stop there.

They added another ingredient to the cacao to make it even more enticing … milk.  

This is now what is mass produced all around the world called “Milk Chocolate”.

When you break down what is in milk, there’s very little protein in it and a whole lot of sugar.

Milk has Lactose.

Just remember that everything that ends in OSE (lactose, fructose, glucose etc.) is a form of sugar.

Literally, the chocolates we have in the market give you a TRIPLE hit of energy.

So it’s no wonder why it’s so addictive.

It also releases Dopamine which is what we call the novelty hormone.

Dopamine makes anything you’re experiencing at the moment magnified.

You feel bonded and closer to every experience when you have chocolates.

That’s why lovers give each other chocolates at Valentine’s Day because they bond on this high.

You love the feeling when you eat chocolates… so you crave them all the time.

Your body is not designed to handle this many toxins at once.

You can become insulin resistant that can lead to Diabetes and fat storage.

 

How To Control Your Chocolate Cravings

1. Eat Natural Foods Rich In Magnesium

When you crave something, it is usually because you are depleted of a certain nutrient.

In this case, you may be low in Magnesium because Cacao is rich in it.

Instead of chocolate, you can have green leafy vegetables, Almonds, Broccoli, Avocados and  Flax seeds to name a few.

 

2.  Be Aware Of Your Chocolate Cravings Level

Catch the cravings before it even gets to the point where you’re powerless and all  you can do is give in.

Make a deal with yourself.

When you feel the urge to eat chocolates, have a mini-Meal™ instead.

It’s a meal composed of natural foods rich in protein, carbohydrates (that you can get from greens) and healthy fats.

Flood your body with nutrition.

If you still feel the chocolate cravings after having the meal, then allow yourself to eat some.

So many of my clients said that this tip freed them from their chocolate cravings.

This is because usually when you crave something, your body is actually craving nutrition.

 

3. Find The Deeper Reason

Sometimes chocolate cravings go deeper than just having the taste of it in your mouth.

It may be a desire to have an emotional attachment and you are craving something to satisfy the lack of sweetness in your life.

You may feel disconnected with your own feelings or with other people.

You may want encouragement and you’re not getting it, and that’s why you turn to chocolates to fill the void.

It may also be a need to for spiritual connection.

You may be at a loss when it comes to fulfilling your ultimate purpose in life.

You may need to look into something higher that can make you feel  contentment.

Here are examples of activities that you can do to satisfy these missing pieces in your life:

  • Connect with other women who are on the same health journey as you are.  Join TrimTribe.
  • Write your thoughts and feelings in a journal.
  • Meditate
  • Exercise

 

When you have chocolate cravings, have some time to examine these areas of your life.

Go through these steps first before actually giving in to your cravings.

Find out what is really happening in your mind and body and you can free yourself from chocolate cravings in no time.

Secret #1:   Focus On How Strong Your Arms Are

The arms are so important for our whole physical presence.

We need them in order to do so many things.

When you focus on what’s positive about your arms, they are going to respond to your actions in a positive way.

Re-framing your relationship with this part of the body can do wonders.

Every time you do anything that requires you to use your arms, give them the appreciation they deserve.

Say “Thank you, arms. I am able to carry my child.”  or “Thank you, arms, I am able to work today.”

How you think about your body and how you talk to it is EVERYTHING!

Witness your arms respond positively to your exercises and all the other health choices you make as you appreciate them more every day.

 

Secret #2:  Build Muscles For Toned Underarms

When you increase your muscle mass, you decrease fat.

We want to build muscles and to use our muscles — muscles that work for you!

You need to build muscles in your ENTIRE BODY, not just in the underarms section.

The statement that we cannot spot-reduce fat is true.

The underarm flab is there because there is a certain percentage of body fat covering your entire body.

As you increase the muscle mass percentage of the body, the body fat percentage decreases all over.

When you achieve this, you will not only get those toned and sexy underarms that you’ve always wanted, your entire body will be lean as well.

 

Secret #3:  Keep Your Arms Moving

Building muscles makes your arms stronger.

But it’s not all about strengthening this part of the body.

You also have to keep the mobility of the arms.

You need to keep them moving.

The flexibility of the arms is equally important.

You want to tune in to your shoulders, elbows and wrists.

Try these Yoga poses for arm flexibility:

Secret #4:  Healthy Balance In Your Hormones Is Key

For years, I couldn’t understand why I would still have bloating in my underarms even if I was doing everything right.

I was exercising and eating clean and still, the underarm flab was there.

That’s when I started studying Hormones.

What I discovered was that the underarm flab is a sign of having too much Estrogen in the body.

This was a big AHA moment for me!

Estrogen is a female hormone.  When our estrogen levels are too high it causes irritability, mood swings, depression and yes, underarm fat.

Unfortunately, it’s not just our bodies that are producing estrogen.

Toxins in the food we eat and in the products that we use everyday such as shampoos, face creams, soap, etc. can also mimic the hormone, estrogen.

They are called “Xeno Estrogens” and they can contribute to causing underarm flab.

So what you want is to lower the amount of estrogen in your environment by avoiding the chemicals in these products as much as you can.

Go for natural and organic products that don’t add to the amount of estrogen produced by your body.

There are so many of them out there and it’s just a matter of finding what works for you.

These are the secrets to toning your underarm flab.

I discovered them through years of studying the science of the body and through my own experience.

Fat Melting Recipe “Seared Tilapia Fillet”

If you think fish dishes are boring, think again…

A good source of lean protein and omega 3 fatty acids, the Tilapia can help reduce inflammation all throughout the body.

This delicious dish is loaded with other vitamins and minerals including calcium…and yes, it’s 100% Fat Melting too!

Try this for your next meal and let me know what you think…

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
dash of pepper
dash of salt
a pinch of dried dill weed of parsley
dash of paprika
4 Tilapia fillets

Directions:

1.  In a saucepan, combine coconut oil, garlic, pepper, salt, dill weed and paprika.

2.  Heat over low heat until coconut oil is melted and starts simmering.

3.  Remove from heat.

4.  Brush a little of the coconut oil mixture in the bottom of a shallow baking dish (line baking dish with foil if desired).

5.  Place Tilapia fillets on the oiled area.

6.  Brush top of each Tilapia with seasoned coconut oil mixture.

7.  Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes until Tilapia flakes easily with fork.

* Serves 2

Overcome Your Weight Loss Plateau

Let me ask you this: Where are you now in your weight loss journey?

After seeing your weight come off and your clothes fit better than ever, do you feel that your weight loss has stopped and that there is no progress anymore?

You continue dieting and working out but somehow when you measure yourself, you see the same results.

You haven’t lost an inch.

Do you feel like you’re stuck and the next step is to just give up?

Then you may be experiencing a Weight Loss Plateau.

 

 How To Breakthrough A Weight Loss Plateau

A weight loss plateau is when your body stops losing weight, your fat cells stop shrinking, your cravings come back and your emotions that you were suppressing are now coming back to the surface.

Scary, right?

Being on a plateau could be even more frustrating than if you were never able to lose the weight in the first place.

It’s because you’ve had a taste of what it’s like to accomplish something that you thought was impossible.

Unfortunately, so many women give up at this point.

I want to tell you now that this is all part of a healthy weight loss journey.

It is an opportunity to learn what’s really going on inside your mind and your body.

If you can ride this out, you can actually go to a greater point.

This weight loss plateau is an opportunity to ask yourself these questions.

‘Why do I have these cravings?’ 

‘Am I filling a void in my life?’

‘Why am I running to food to fill what’s inside my heart?’

‘Why do I care about losing weight in the first place?’

When you ask questions like these, this is when the real work comes in.

Your body is inviting you to go deeper within yourself.

 

Starvation diets can make you lose weight temporarily and it can give you such a high.

It’s like a drug, and you want more of it.

But you will hit a plateau.

At this point, maybe you’ve become so obsessed about how to get that high back.

So you go on your starvation diets again.

When you don’t get the same results, maybe you start to take pills.

Then you hit the plateau again so you start to take more pills or even turn to surgeries.

Well, guess what, you will still hit the plateau. I know because I have been through ALL of this.

Unless you are prepared to accept that you will go through plateaus in your weight loss journey, you will still be a yo-yo dieter.

Until you do the internal work of really finding out the answers to these questions, you will still end up giving up when you hit this stage of the journey.

Dealing with these issues and discovering the answers to these questions will help you ride through the plateaus quicker.

Remember, that the universe or your beliefs would not give this to you now unless you were ready.

So welcome it because the more you run, the harder it’s going to be.

Riding out the weight loss plateau is one of the most powerful steps that you can take in your weight loss journey.

This is the time that you get to know yourself even more so you can continue losing weight.

You will also be able to keep it off because you have already dealt with the issues inside of you.

So hang in there.

Change things up if you want.

Find what motivates you.

Remember to never give up because this too shall pass.

Wherever you are right now in your weight loss journey is exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Take the weight loss plateau as what they are meant to be…an opportunity for you to go from this point to something even greater.

Make time to ask yourself these questions and really go deep to discover the answers.

There’s no need to rush.

This is YOUR journey.

Fat Melting Recipe “Deviled Eggs”

Eggs are some of the most versatile power foods out there.

They are packed with protein, healthy fats and lots of other vitamins and minerals.

They are easy to cook and you can bring them anywhere.

Give a delicious spin to these fat-melting eggs with this great recipe.

Ingredients:

6 hard boiled eggs
1/4 cup mayonnaise or mayonnaise alternative (for the recipe, click here)
1 tsp. white vinegar
1 tsp. yellow mustard
1/8 tsp sea salt
freshly ground pepper
Paprika for garnish

 

Directions:

1.  Peel hard boiled eggs.

2.  In medium bowl, mix together all ingredients.

3.  Fill hard-boiled eggs with mixture and top with Paprika.
